KodeTree Kid’s Goals is a fun tool to help kids and young adults learn monetary amounts and save toward a goal.
Children generally dont have a concept of money. They know that the toy on the shelf costs "money". They also know that they have "money" that grandpa gave them. It doesnt matter that they have $5.00 and the toy is $50.00. To them, its an even trade. Leaving the store without the toy can seem controlling, unfair and even lead to a meltdown.
When in the store, diffuse the “I want it now” demands by taking a picture of the item with the I-phone camera. Show the picture of the item to your child.
Your child can now, tap Go and add their allowance and gift money. As they save toward their goal, the goal image will be uncovered. This is reinforced with a progress bar designed to show your child just how much money have visually with respect to the goal.
The game area uses $1 coins so your child has a visual representation of the amount of money that they are depositing with tactile interaction.
When they have completed saving they can save an accomplishment photo certificate which you can use like a coupon to allow purchase of the toy. This is designed to remove you from the purchasing equation building self confidence and allowing the child to feel in control.
